ABOUT KATY WEST ART

My name is Katy West, I’m a 19 year old artist located in Kings Langley, Hertfordshire. Art has always been a passion of mine since I was young, I strongly believe everybody should have a creative outlet as it has taught me so many lessons and it is a form of peace and self-reflection for me. I'm inspired to create art by my love of animals, rock music and the whimsicality of gothic and surrealist traditional art. Artists that inspire me most include Francisco Goya and Caravaggio. The National Gallery offers much creative inspiration for me, the immense detail inside these enormous, centuries old paintings leaves me in awe. The time spent intricately painting with each brush stroke leaves me with a lot of ambition and raises the bar for my artwork. I try to follow the lessons of the masters within my paintings, I adored my time during A Level art researching art history and writing essays on the godfathers of art. Classic art holds a very special place in my heart, I’m passionate about self development, learning and human connection, creating art helps me to express these qualities. I love to use lots of colour and precise detail within my paintings and drawings, my expertise resides in realism and animals although I’m excited to explore different subject matter and art styles in my creative journey. It is immensely appreciated any support for a young artist like me, it’s been my dream to make my art my career.

One of my favourite subject matters to create artwork of  is animals, I paint and draw pet portraits with pencil, acrylic paints and oil paints. My cats are so important to me, and when I can help bring another persons pet back to life within an artwork it means more than anything. Feeling the gratitude of people I have made paintings fills my heart, I can feel a connection with the pet as I create the artwork, admiring the beauty in each paint stroke of the fur and understanding more with each intricacy of the colours and shapes in the eyes.Â
